Founded in 1966, Jinbo Pearls is Lake Biwa’s pearl specialty shop. During the heyday of the Lake Biwa pearl, our main business was in overseas sales, but we have sold primarily within Shiga Prefecture since that time. We built a shop by the Shiga Prefectural Office in 2014, and began sharing history and background information along with our Lake Biwa pearls. Traditional dried candies are known across Japan as “rakugan,” but these originate from “Katata Rakugan” here in Otsu. Kinji-do sells such dried candies with an image of the floating pavilion on Lake Biwa, above which flies an elegant flock of geese. This is an image that originates from this area’s own “Katata Rakugan” (“The Wild Geese Returning Home at Katata”), one of the Eight Traditional Scenes of the Omi area.
