Kanou Shoujuan believes that Japan’s traditional wagashi sweets exist alongside the natural beauty of Japan, and strives to create sweets filled with an equal beauty.Also, because we are located in the southeast of Otsu City, in a 207,900 m² area of hillside known as “Sunai no Sato” (The Home of Longevity), and are surrounded by the beauty of the changing seasons, it’s the perfect location for visitors to enjoy a seasonal kaiseki meal or matcha tea together with a wagashi sweet.

At Kano Shojuan Sunainosato we aim to provide “kaiseki” meals that incorporate seasonal ingredients into the process of the tea ceremony. Guests can enjoy seasonal food together with the colors of the season. All meals are by reservation only, so please make a reservation before your visit. At the adjoining Irori Sabo, guests can also enjoy handmade Japanese sweets such as zenzai made with fresh ingredients including azuki beans, mochi, and Japanese chestnuts.

Located on Toshoji Temple’s grounds, this shop specializes in sweets and delicatessen dishes. Our specialty is a caramel chiffon cake that is covered with ample bittersweet caramel and has a deep butter flavor that can be easily eaten. We’ve even had fans from far away come for a taste!

Holiday Afternoon contains both a well-maintained 2,000 square meter natural grass dog park, as well as a popular cafe with handmade bread and sandwiches. In addition to the cafe, you can also enjoy an Omi beef barbecue and a day-trip hot spring with a cloudy sodium bicarbonate bath.
