Traditional dried candies are known across Japan as “rakugan,” but these originate from “Katata Rakugan” here in Otsu. Kinji-do sells such dried candies with an image of the floating pavilion on Lake Biwa, above which flies an elegant flock of geese. This is an image that originates from this area’s own “Katata Rakugan” (“The Wild Geese Returning Home at Katata”), one of the Eight Traditional Scenes of the Omi area. Our store is the largest within the premises of Mt. Hiei, and is located in front of the bus center of the head temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, Enryakuji Temple. Here we have the souvenirs of Mt. Hiei, as well as an assortment of famous products from Kyoto and Shiga. Our specialties are Mt. Hiei goma tofu (tofu-like dish made with ground sesame paste) and Mt. Hiei goma daifuku (rice cake stuffed with bean jam and topped with sesame seeds).

Holiday Afternoon contains both a well-maintained 2,000 square meter natural grass dog park, as well as a popular cafe with handmade bread and sandwiches. In addition to the cafe, you can also enjoy an Omi beef barbecue and a day-trip hot spring with a cloudy sodium bicarbonate bath.
