Shizukarou played an important role in lake transportation. It was established in the fishing town Katata. This name is known from “Katata no Rakugan” (Wild Geese Returning Home at Katata), one of the paintings in the “Omi Hakkei” (Eight Views of Omi) series. Shizudaro’s local cuisine has more than 80 years of history. Visitors can enjoy dishes prepared with fresh ingredients from Lake Biwa including gudgeon, duck, eel, and sweetfish.

Saikyo-ji’s Buddhist cuisine employs edible chrysanthemums that are a special local product. Our Kikugozen Set is only available for a limited time from November 1st to November 30th. A Hinagozen Set is also available during our ornamental doll display is exhibited for Girl’s Day. Reservations are required.

Come and enjoy a meal at a merchant house that was built in 1905 and is a nationally registered tangible cultural property. Our backyard is a garden constructed by Ogawa Jihei VII, who is famous for designing Maruyama Park and Heian Jingu Shrine.
