A long-established butcher shop–run restaurant from “Matsukiya,” known for spreading the name “Omi gyu” (Omi beef) nationwide since the early Meiji era. Located in Ishiyama along the Seta River in Shiga Prefecture, the restaurant is currently run by fourth-generation owner “Nishii Motoharu,” who operates two locations: the main branch and a hamburger steak specialty restaurant. A special menu, “Hideyoshi Hidenaga Sengoku Gozen,” spotlights Hidenaga—the protagonist of the Taiga drama “Toyotomi Brothers”—and his older brother Hideyoshi, featuring ingredients tied to the people and culture of the Sengoku period they lived through. ○Hashirii Mochi Hashirii mochi was created in 1764. Made using Hashirii mineral spring water and rice from Omi Province (modern-day Shiga Prefecture), this mochi would not only fill the bellies of travelers, but also soothe their weariness. Located on Toshoji Temple’s grounds, this shop specializes in sweets and delicatessen dishes. Our specialty is a caramel chiffon cake that is covered with ample bittersweet caramel and has a deep butter flavor that can be easily eaten. We’ve even had fans from far away come for a taste!

A small-scale local craft beer brewery. We produce beer that makes the most of local ingredients sourced from Shiga Prefecture. We specialize in brewing with fruit and have a reputation for an exquisite sense of balance that doesn’t let the fruit overpower the beer. Our most popular beer is the “Kouji Ale,” made using malted rice (koji). At the beer terrace attached to the brewery, you can enjoy light snacks such as “beer battered chicken” along with freshly crafted beer.
