Matsukiya is the well-established restaurant who popularized the name of Omi beef during the early Meiji period. In addition to its signature, mature, “Omi Matsukiya Omi Beef,” Matsukiya also works towards the further cultivation of red meat beef, and continuing to strive to provide new flavors of one of the best wagyu beefs in Japan, Omi Beef.

Southern

Michi no Eki – Imoko no Sato opened in August 2015. At our restaurant, we serve dishes such as steak, sukiyaki, curry, and meat spaghetti using top-quality A4 and A5 grade Omi beef, which we source by purchasing whole cattle. The facility also includes a specialty product store, tourist information and rest center, and a convenience store, so please feel free to stop by.

Northern

Ishiyamadera Temple’s famous and popular fried mitarashi dango (sweet rice dumplings) are sold here.

Southern

Visitors can take a look at our production line, or purchase some of our “Yuuko” Izutsu Yatsuhashi (a traditional sweet made of sweet red beans wrapped in soft mochi sheets). The shop also includes exhibitions of Otsu-e paintings, Otsu abacuses, bamboo blinds, needles, and more objects associated with the old Tokaido Road and inns along the forked road.

Kanou Shoujuan believes that Japan’s traditional wagashi sweets exist alongside the natural beauty of Japan, and strives to create sweets filled with an equal beauty.Also, because we are located in the southeast of Otsu City, in a 207,900 m² area of hillside known as “Sunai no Sato” (The Home of Longevity), and are surrounded by the beauty of the changing seasons, it’s the perfect location for visitors to enjoy a seasonal kaiseki meal or matcha tea together with a wagashi sweet.
