Highlights & Introduction

Zeze Shrine is said to have been established in the Nara period (710-794 CE), and is where the deity Toyokebimeno-kami is enshrined.

During the middle ages, a period in which religious faith among military commanders was quite strong, there are records showing that figures such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu gave offerings of sacred treasures to the shrine that are stored in the main building.

Zeze Shrine’s front gate is the original core Otemon Gate of Zeze Castle, and is recognized as an important cultural property of Japan.
