We gather freshwater fish from the west side of Lake Biwa to prepare our “ameni” dishes (a specialized boiling process) and “funazushi” (fermented sushi). We also offer pickled vegetables. Please come and try our homemade flavors that have become renowned through the country.

Founded in the year 1810, for over 200 years Honke Chikaraken has served Miidera Benkei Chikara-mochi within the premises of Otsu’s Miidera Temple. Here we provide the nostalgic, historic tastes of matcha green tea and soft gyuhi mochi, made with refined Japanese sugar and Japanese-made soybean flower.
