Highlights & Introduction

The “Stone Warding Jizo” is located at the base of a steep cliff known locally as the armor rock, at the northern edge of the national highway running through Kitakomatsu. This cliff was prone to frequent falling rocks, making it very dangerous to pass beneath. To protect travelers from the danger of falling rocks, the locals placed a Jizo statue at the base of the cliff, naming it “Stone Warding Jizo,” and have worshipped it as a guardian deity ever since.
