Grave of Kanehira Imai

Imai Kanehira was the military commander of the latter half of the Heian period, and foster sibling of Yoshinaka Kiso (Minamoto).

He fought together with Yoshinaka against Yoritomo Minamoto’s army in the battle of Awazu (1184), and after being defeated and the death of Yoshinaka in battle, he chose to take his own life.

His current grave was constructed by Imai’s descendants, and his previous was built by the then lord of the Zeze Domain, Toshitsugu Honda, who had great respect for Imai.
