Former Tokaido: Seta Area

Traces of the former Tokaido, which once ran throught the city of Otsu, still remain today in areas of Seta.

After crossing the Karahashi bridge along the road from Otsu-juku into Kusatsu-juku, nearby modern-day JR 「Seta Station」, a stone monument marks the remains of a former Edo period milestone marker. This marker was once home to a large pine tree which stood behind it, existing through the Taisho era, and this monument was constructed in its commemoration in 1976 by a local volunteer.
