Isomeshi Garden (and Picture-Framing Pavilion)
This garden is located in the former home of a samurai named Isomeshi.
The garden is said to be the collaborative work of the samurai Kitamura Yuan and the tea master Fujimura Yoken, who practiced during the same period that the famous poet Matsuo Basho was writing. The garden is designated as a national sight of scenic beauty.
When viewed from the thatched-roof hut surrounded by greenery, which faces the garden (the so-called Picture-Framing Pavilion), visitors can see the grand scenery of both Lake Biwa and the line of mountains that stretches along the lake’s eastern side.
