Sakunado Shrine
The shrine is considered to have first been established in 669 by the order of Emperor Tenji. The shrine has been known ever since as one location like Karasaki Shrine as a designated location for Shinto purification rituals to ward off disaster for the Emperor. A wooden ema plaque remains from the great grandfather of Ōishi Kuranosuke, who is a main figure in the tale of the Forty-seven Rōnin.
